Giro Recycle?

In 2011 GIRO collected and recyled:

  • 46 metric tons of cardboard
  • 7 metric tons of newsprint
  • 10 metric tons of glass
  • 7 metric tons of glue-bound books
  • 15 metric tons of mixed waste paper
  • 3 metric tons of various plastics
  • 2.2 metric tons of milk jugs
  • 68 metric tons of ferrous metals
  • 1.13 metric tons of non-ferrous metals
  • 130 car batteries
  • 25 skids of TVs, computers and monitors (does not include TVs too big to fit on skid)
  • 10 skids of electronic peripherals (scanners, VCRs, DVD players, printers, faxes, phones, etc.)

Gabriola Island Recycling Organization (GIRO) was founded in 1990 by a group of civic-minded Gabriola residents. Our constitution and bylaws are here.
