All items donated for reuse should be clean, dry and reusable. A GIRO staff member or volunteer will receive your donations during depot hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays and let you know if there are any that we are unable to accept.
Twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, GIRO's resale store is the place where you are most likely to run into friends and neighbours. Promoting the “reuse” part of our “Rethink/Reduce/Reuse/Recycle” mantra, our Re-Store offers an opportunity to rediscover the truth of the saying, “one man's trash is another man's treasure.”
Community donated items are for sale at very affordable prices. These include kitchenware, small appliances, furniture, books, toys, building and garden supplies, tools, linens and clothing for all members of the family. Selected items are sold through a silent auction to give more people an opportunity to buy them.
Proceeds from resale help fund additional recycling projects. With no landfill facility on the island, all garbage must be trucked to the RDN landfill in Cedar. By taking reusable and recyclable items to GIRO and by shopping at the GIRO Re-Store, you are helping to make our community more self-sustaining.
REMEMBER: RETHINK, REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
