Due to the rise in COVID-19 in this region we believe it is necessary to close the Restore. The vaccination rollout has not yet reached the many vulnerable folks on Gabriola and with COVID numbers rising at an alarming rate on Vancouver Island we believe that it is better to err on the side of caution and close the Restore until the end of May when we will reassess.
The Recycling department which is an essential service will continue to operate as normal with full services 9:30am-3:30pm Wednesdays and Saturdays.
We will NOT be accepting housewares or clothing drop offs while the Restore is closed.

In 2021-22, GIRO plans to build a textile-repurposing "maker-space" building as part of its C2C Textile Recycling Initiative. So far, this experiment with a “circular economy” has received province-wide interest, along with international press coverage.

We have applied for and received two generous grants, but we are fund-raising for the final details of the maker-space building: the purchase of specialized equipment and industrial furniture.
